I went to the Tate museum of modern art to gain inspiration and there i saw formulator art to me and unformulated. I took pictures of works that I personally liked which was majority television, digital experiments and works from such artists like Pablo Picasso. I documented the entire day through pictures and drawings.

I learnt so many things walking around the museum; Art isn't about accuracy its about exploring and trying to create something no one has thought about. "I can do that" but yet they didn't and it makes the artists stand out and have a recognizable pattern that occurs in their work repeatably. Art has many meanings it can be silly or be really deep and it depends on the thoughts of the viewer as the artists intention can be completely different and that's the beauty about art.

The Tate Modern - Gallery trip

This was one of many, to be mt favorite works. This work stated something wrong with the modern art system as the only way a woman's was involved was as if it was her own body being painted commonly by a male artists within the Met.Museum.

Most female artists have been over powered by male artists for millions of years. It is also humorous because the title can give the audience a different meaning.

Local art exhibit

There was a local art exhibit I went to also. It was completely different from the Tate Modern in many ways. This was an exhibit gallery/ display and was only on for two days as the Tate was a gallery that wasn't time limited, it did held exhibits that was limited but the gallery its self wasn't limited. This exhibit was focused more for three artists who were starting out and were selling their artwork. The Tate was about modern art as a whole.

I took pictures of my favorite works within this small exhibit.

Tesco's Work Experiance

The first day was about getting to know the area before painting, health and safety along with gathering up ideas.

The main health and safety priority was that only students who were 18 or over could use the ladders and scaffolding as the mural was large and not everyone was tall enough to cover the areas/ spaces that needed to be filled.

The overall idea was simple it was about diversity along with being together and tesco's wanted hands within this work. The tutor suggested we make rough ideas and mine was taken forward as everyone added ideas towards it.

We finally began the sketches and it was simple, just involving a bunch of hands. which was simple.

After having a lunch we were put into groups and given a section of the wall to begin painting. We had to involve flags from countries somehow and everyone decided to fill in the hands with these designs. I thought It would be more higher from the simple hand shape to add detail within the hands, like outline it and add hand wrinkles to give it a cartoonist look to the work.

Overall I think the day was a success. We began and started painting the work which I thought wouldn't have been completed until day 2 or even three but its progress.

Reflection of lessons

3D/ Fineart 12th September 2016

In this class (Finart/ 3D work) I had to do observational drawings of a pair of shoes that were given to me, I was to explore and get to know the shoes before deconstructing them. During this lesson I used my time to think up inventive ways to illustrate and study these shoes. I went with a simple sketch at first and then used drawing methods. such as blind contour/ blind drawing or continuous lines. I then used a different medium as the pencil was explored as much as I could. I did detailed cross hatch drawings and up close/ enlarged areas highlighted. Looking back at the work i added in sticky notes onto the sketches at the beginning to break it up and make it a mixture of different mediums. I used marker and acyclic paint, It really broke up and brought attention the the areas, creating contrast within the work on its own.

I knew there was more I could do, I used what was around me and did a sketch with a highlighter and colored areas with acyclic paint to really make the work rough.

I ended up using black paper to create contrasting work with masking tape which made the work interesting. I then thought about how I can move from observational drawing and study the space, so I placed the shoes down on the paper and drew around it, and filled the space in with black paper. I could have looked more into this as it would have been an interesting experimentation.

Mixed Media 12th September 2016

This lesson we tried to experiment with backgrounds that fit in with deconstruction an construction, at first we tried using the texture of printed/ pages from a book onto a plain sheet of paper by sticking it on and once the paint dried rip it off. This created interesting outcomes as they all weren't the same, but this really depended on how long you left the pages on the paper for. Once this was done we left this aside and worked on printing and creating printed textures. To do this we would collect different kinds of paper with texture and without, and we would attach them together with either sewing or maskidgtape. This was then printed over the top with different patterns that other textured paper had.

I learnt from the lesson that its okay to destroy something to create something different, going outside the comfort zone and going beyond to experiment and understand the meaning to the keywords

Drawing 14th September 2016

This lesson is practice to observing a subject or an object to draw. First lesson was objects with a chair, stools, bottles and keys. We had to draw what we could only see from our direction, and to help me through this i kept telling myself, draw what I see not what I know.

We had to draw with pastels, pencil and pen. The first drawing was to draw for five minutes what we could see in pencil, then we had to draw something else with a continuous line to cover the whole page. The next sheet was drawn with pen, 10 minutes detail with a continued line. This forced detail which would have been done with crosshatching and gave the work movement and life with the lines being over lapped. The last sheet was developed with pastels and we have the choice to get all up, close and personal with the work with using our fingers to create gradation and making the work interesting. I learnt from the lesson a way to live objects character with fighting and shading, to create interesting approach with drawing the areas which are highlighted and drawing/ darkening the areas around it to really make the work stand out. This will help me with observational work with my project.

Graphic Design 15th September 2016

This lesson I was introduced to the movement DADA which i had to do research about as for this subject I was to create a A1 sheet collage which ties in with construction and deconstruction. I did research on Hannah notch which at the time was the only known DADA female artists and her work was around feminist statements, and through her i learnt that DADA was simple a movement that made fun of and mocked political situations at the time with collage.

I looked more into it and had to think up a statement to focus my work around. I chose to something that was happening around this year as 2016 was a pretty bazaar year with the events arriving in the news which were ridicules but also had arguments and sides to and to make fun of that in a creative way seemed fun and seemed like something that would be interesting for my portfolio.

After research I spoke to the teacher about ideas which may be looked into for this piece such as how the internet has  brought the world together and has created sub cultures and has in a way became more dangerous because it leads into areas which can't be monitored for the safety of overs.

3D/Fineart 19th September 2016

In this lesson we deconstructed the shoes. We took them apart piece by piece until the shoe was no longer known or seen as a shoe. with the remaining parts we make plaster molds (negative out of clay which where created by pressing the shoe down onto the clay) of the shoe to capture the texture and detail on the shoe and the pieces that were taken apart. Once those were drying used plaster to make small negative/ reversed sculptures of the textures needed which would have been brought into the mix media lessons.

During this we went through the health and safety which involved having an open space so the plaster dust couldn't be trapped and inhaled by the students. To never apply it onto the skin without any protection. To not touch the plaster as it reacts as it gets hot. To wait until the plaster has set to throw away the unwanted plaster remaining into the bin not the sink.

This lesson was the deconstruction of the shoe and it involved heavily detail of the shoe once taken apart which I learnt was far more interesting then the whole progress of getting to know the shoe through observational drawings.

Mixed Media 19th September 2016

In this lesson we moved onto making stencils. We used professional stencil paper and cut out an image we had of a shoe we drawn. I chose a shoe which looked more abstract to make the outcome of the prints more intresting. I ended up over lapping the print examples to create an interesting pattern. With this we could move onto sewing over the top of the print or on fabric to create more interesting outcomes and textures for a huge A1 sheet that would be stored into my portfolio

This would prep me for the next lesson where we begin creating our A1 sheet which is involving prints from this lesson and from past ones to create a work that has been through deconstructing and construction. The artists also that have been studied will help with this as they would involve inspiration.

Drawing/ life drawing 28th September

For this lesson we had to bring in a stick which was used as a tool to draw with ink, With this we created interesting pieces of art/ figure works of the model. This was the first time using a method like this where i could use something other than a brush for something like this.

After doing this we then put a pencil at the end of a long stick and drew from a distance. The problem I had with this was that my pencil wasn't soft so the lines and the overall work was hard to make out, but from this I learnt that soft pencils would be better to try out then the standard HB all the time.

Evaluating Final pieces

I used formal elements such as shape and colour, I used them by using squares which i had cut up from other work/ textured pieces I had created in Mixed media to bring the work together and give the work a cluttered look. The pieces where placed so that the colours besides them would bring contrast and help the overall piece stand out. Line was present within the work but wasn't in depth. It was used through sewing/ string to bring the pieces together and create an interesting look up close. This wasn't successful as the lines/ stitches where not noticeable from afar unless up close.

I tried to give this work movement from the placements of the cut outs and the texture of the wall filler from the stencil over the top of the overall work. Movement is present but isn't noticeable at first. As the cluttered look takes all the attention away from detail. The piece has great contrast from the portrait which i used and cut up to the patterned and textured paper that was deconstructed and placed around the painting. I think the contrast was successful as I said before it creates a clutter look and draws attention to the work because so much is going on.

The materials I used was a painting which I created with the summer project, tracing paper, masking tape, wall paper (textured) fabric and string. I think overall they worked wonders and did the job. The only problem was that i used masking tape to stick down each square which did cause trouble in the long term of the piece as I had trouble carrying it around and it would fall apart. To improve on that I wouldn't use masking tape but instead use glue

The following artists inspired me for Alice Kettle, Shepard Fairey, Cy Twombly and Hannah Hoch. Hoch inspired me with the usage of photo montage, cutting up images and recreating something, with this work i used my own painting and recreated something else with it. I used the eyes of the work the key point of the work as eyes was a huge factor in Hoch's work. Cy expressed his work through reactions or his response to a piece of writing or sound, I wanted to put that idea into my work. I didn't stick to one thing instead I listened to music about deconstructing and i think it helped it get its overall look. Alice inspired me to sew and create images within the work with thread work. I didn't show much in the work but that is something I wish I could improve on the work.

The meaning and the message to this work is just how someone can look in control of their life and yet everything around them crumbles. This message was a easy simple one and I think I achieved it. It seems fitting with the theme of the project. I believe i did achieve it but I dont think the message would be the first thing people think of and the beauty of that is what ever the audiences sees isnt right nor wrong.

I am really happy with the out come and I am more proud of the area around the eyes of the piece. The eyes are hiding yet slow a careless look to them with the square of colours and texture around them draw more attention to this area.

I think I could have been more ambitious and used more primary drawings to the work such as the observational shoe drawings I had. I did play it safe but I think in a way i went outside of my comfort zone by deconstruction, cutting up and reusing an art piece from another project.

I think my piece has shape to it and colour. The shapes are all over the place in an unorganized manner as the colour looks like its in order with pink in the top left, green in the bottom right with purple and red by the bottom left and white in the top right.

I did try and give this work movement but i think over the progress of making it the movement was lost but there is emphasis there with the topic of clowns as its been made aware in all of the images put onto the collage with drawn over or made known through some images of clowns. Other than that I dont think I really succeeded as their work was unorganized and had no order to it.

The materials I used was images from online/ google and images from magazines that were lying around. I used pen/ Biro to add in detail and give the normal images a clown look and mock the subject overall by turning them into clowns. I would draw on the face the traditional clown makeup and clothing while adding in other images over the top to destroy the original image.

Hannah Hoch and Sarah Eisenlohr inspired me for this work. Sarah tries to make her work dream life with contrast to sizing from the subject and the background, I did organically have that planned but was unable to do it due to I was unable to print off the images I wanted too. With Hannah was overall cutter or simple and eyes was a huge key in her work. I tried my best to involve eyes/ distort eyes within my work and I think i did it really well with highlight each eye with the make up clown look.

The meaning behind this piece is around the media around the time I started this project. Clowns where around america scaring kids and asking them to come into the woods. I wanted to mock clowns and the fear of clowns really with this work since the whole up rawr was silly and something that would bring up interesting artworks. I got the idea but I think i didn't capture that in this work. I would improve on that by adding in creepy images of clowns and make that creepiness more silly than use models and draw across their faces.

I believe this work could be better than it is, I could have made it more organized and more tidy than an unorganized clutter.

I could improve by over time collecting images and printing them off piece by piece.

With this work I did try and use shape by giving the inside of the television a false relativity with dada inspired college, I think it could have been more shape and tone. The work does have movement and verity with the harmony of the flow of the trees and story unfolded within the television with this sculpture being a narrative piece.

The materials I used was an old television i found and up-cycled then deconstructed, cardboard, paint and magazine cutouts. the cardboard was used inside of the television as the case of the television was salvaged to be able to display the narrative work within it. I used magazine cutouts to create distorted looking subjects/ people within the work. I think they were successful as the outcome worked out well.

The artists that inspired me was: Sarah Eisenlohr with the college idea of the human subject contrasting with nature in a dream like situation. brian dettmer with up-cycling something to make a narrative within the work that makes a sculpture which was about the object. Koji Takei, deconstructing a everyday useful object and making it unusable and then putting it back together to something new.

The message is that the media covering and making a highlight of something like this gives those around a reason to be terrified and yet also gives others ideas to join in. The media is the source of inspiring and also spreading fears. I think it isnt highlighted very well with this piece but the theme is made clear which I think is successful enough.

I am happy with this outcome, I put time and effort into this piece and thought about it carefully. I could improve by going further by adding in more stuff outside of the television case making the narrative venture out of the screen.

The challenges I faced was more around deconstructing the television as the whole piece needed to be unscrewed. after that it was how to display the inside then the idea of creating a sloping effect so the inside had a false reality in a 2D laid form of a DADA  inspired work.

Evaluating Project

The theme for this project is Deconstruction and construction, taking something or creating something and take it apart and see a better and a more creative way to place it back together for a statement or to create something that was far different from its original form. I developed my ideas by doing drawings, and trying to think of a way to take something apart while observing it and getting to know the object or the work better then taking it apart.

At the beginning my work was just mainly around observational drawings of shoes, shoes seemed too safe for me so I wanted something technical and then I tried to use a television. I did observational drawings and drew ideas before touching it.

I researched around about nine artists and I learnt that the dada/ college artists where more about making statements along with a false reality while the mixed media artists where more about emotions and expression self through different mediums. I learnt that deconstruction is a progress step through any form of art, it'll be there necessary or not. I went to two different art galleries, I went to the Tate museum and I saw so many beautiful works of art  and walking around I learnt that all forms of art doesn't need to be visually beautiful sometimes its pointing something out which everything ignores or thinks is an everything situation.

I think I should have done more this project, gone out and found more primary inspiration for my work and making it more stronger.

Sarah Eisenlohr was a key inspiration throughout my work in this project. She inspired my ideas and development as i was mesmerized by her use of contrast I wanted to try and include it in some way in all my work, through large colour blocks or enlarged images around plain areas.

With this project I was put in a position where I had to think of other ways to capture and observe an image and through this I created works that were outside of my comfort zone. I would like to do that more and break my limits through the next project. I used materials I knew about and how to use but didn't enjoy using and that experience made this project for of a learning experience.
