Sculpture Trial and Error

I attempted to create the mask the main character wore in the story in 3D to display at the exhibition. The first material I thought would be a good start was paper. It was easy to use and to create shapes. The first attempt I didn't use the maniquin head to make sure the mask would fit the human head and it wouldn't look ridiculous . As i didn't use it the mask looked like the one I designed for the character but the shape was rather square and awkward to wear with it appearing box shaped. I kept the first attempt and used it as a base idea on where I wanted to head. I kept the usage of paper throughout this as the material had no problems it was how I shaped it (squares instead of triangles.)

Front view and side view of the mask with the maniquin (painted to match the colour theme of the main character and to help the mask stand out with it being white)

The materials are Glue and Paper, paper cut up into square and triangle shapes to try and show a simplified bunny face.

I tried to approach the mask in a different way by trying rounder shapes to try the bunny shape and used the maniquin this time to help make the mask less awkward. I cut up shapes mostly triangles to make it easier to make it fit around the head; making it wearable. I started with a diamond mirror shape for the eyes  and worked out from there. I didn't have a plan but I thought about what shape would do well and make the mask still appear animal like and like the Rabbit. I liked the shape of the front but it appeared too simple like it would be mistaken as masquerade mask  so I tried to make it more mask like and added a top and then the ears.

I added  a structure on the op of the head making it more practical for running which is the main premise of the story. The ears are too far along the side which is anatomically incorrect to the bone structure of a Rabbit as its more specifically at the side of the head than the top at the sides, to simplify it and make it recognizable to all ages it would have been effective at the top making the running in the mask seem more aesthetically pleasing with the ears moving along with the hair.  The mask seemed too simple of an idea as it doesn't have a distanint feature or part of it that makes it stand out. I realized that this mask wouldn't do well on its own with its simple design, It needs to be with the characters design to make it more effective. I will take what I have learnt from this onto the sculpture of the character.
