Summer school/ University – 2016 Bedford university art and design
I went to a summer school experience and had a taster of University life, with this I got three whole days to work with tutors and other students to create album covers. During this time, I discovered that I am right for this course as problem solving and experimenting with different materials was something I enjoyed and yet found challenging to work with as it was all new to me. I soon got the idea of how to use the materials and what was need from me.
With this the unit was based around sound. I was the head of my group, we had to illustrate what we all had thought and what came to us while the song was playing. With this I tried my best to make the artwork appeal to others (the audience) and link to the meaning of the song as we had to design an album cover. I looked back and thought about what would do well and pass in a store or online that would catch someone’s eye and be interested in to listen to this song. I thought the best way to do that is through typography and bright colours but I had to be careful with how I laid everything out. I pitched this idea to the group and they all agreed but together we made the design stronger; resulting to an outcome we were all proud of.
Why are you applying for your chosen course(s)??
This course challenges the students to become problem solvers and that is something I have always admired; figuring out a problem, making it creative and stand out in its own unique way. This is one of many reasons why I have chosen to apply for this course.

In my spare time out of college/classes I create pixelated digital artwork as well as narrative linked to the work as I enjoy constructing stories and then illustrating them. I also revel in researching and staying in touch with political news and keep track with the democracy of the world throughout history and present. The skills gained from these hobbies have helped me throughout projects and work within classes such as IT skills and context behind a themed project.

Recently over the summer I went to a summer school for Art and Design at Bedfordshire University. I chose to study this course because it challenges the students to become problem solvers and that is something I have always admired; figuring out a problem, making it creative and stand out in its own unique way. I have a passion and the energy to create stories that will help children learn about mental health, overall well-being and happiness making it my own way to change the world.
Final Personal Statement
At University I hope to study Illustration full time, the reasons for this is because I’ve always believed that Illustration Is a key element in today’s society, it is what helps us observe and develop ideas as these stages make ideas reality through creative mediums and I wish to be a part of that. the course Illustration is not only something I am interested in its also something I am passionate about as I believe it is strongly linked with society in various ways throughout history that have changed the world.

In my experience studying Art and Design full-time, I have developed strong relationships with my tutors through my effort and determination towards the course. With their support, it resulted to myself showing interest towards the field Illustration through the early stages of college because my strong areas are 2D and graphic design and Illustration had key elements which I wanted to do in the future and for a career; creating 2D images with various effects and techniques which can borderline between rich, bright, colours or the simplicity of black and white and make a simple word or text into an interesting image related to the word or creating visual stories with a meaning that could change a way someone thinks or sees the world. Everything about that is why I wish to study Illustration.

I soon got the idea of how to use the materials and what was need from me in my group. The unit was based around sound. Also recently for work experience, I went to a Tesco’s warehouse and painted a mural that represented the keyword ‘Together’ which involved teamwork, heavy planning before and while doing the work as the mural went through multiple changes throughout the week of its development. Throughout both experiences, I not only learnt that I wanted to study Illustration, as Illustration is generally used as part of something have it be media, advertisement and narration but also what is needed from me in the course with an open mind to different possibilities and demonstrate it all creatively to express myself in what I create through working individually and as a team.

In my spare time out of classes, I create pixelated digital artwork using only what I had around me so I grew up using Microsoft paint and only using a mouse but through education, I’ve learnt how to use InDesign, Photoshop and a graphics tablet so through all of these I’ve explored narrative works linked to the digital illustrations as I enjoy constructing stories and then bring them to life through visuals. I also revel in researching and staying in touch with political news and keep track with the democracy of the world throughout history and present. For entertainment, I play adventure, horror and puzzle games mainly for the story telling as It’s a key feature I enjoy the most out of anything because it brings emotion and connects everyone to the work of fiction or in some cases nonfiction.
I chose to study this course because of its strong links to narration and creative challenges making the students become problem solvers.
