Unit 12: Engaging with an Audience

The Big Bang ( MARS Project)

Proposal

My ideas for this project,The Big Bang, MARS (maths, art, religion and science) is built around history and society in visual format. "history is remember by its art not its war machines" - James Rosenquist , who is a famous muralist around the 1960's who used famous advertised/ works in the media together. My plan for the project is to explore illustrated/narrative outcomes because I hope to pursue a career in illustration in the future. With that in mind I won't stop there and like to venture into graphic design. The overall idea is built around a false reality around the decade which ventures around post apocalypse and what is left behind and how did we make our marks.

I expect to work with illustration, textiles/mixed media and graphic design as I believe these will help me bring out an interesting journey with the topic I am looking at with found objects, advertisement, politic and propaganda around the time.(which will involve research around this area in science, how it effects cultures and education/religion and the mathematics behind it.) I plan on using materials such as Inks, paints (acrylics and water colours) with this also I plan on creating digital experiments. I can use these materials to experiment with techniques I have used before and ones I have yet to know of.

With this I plan on collecting objects and doing observational drawings of them with the medias that have been mentioned to get formalized with them. explore with researched artists techniques along with secondary and primary research involved. So far the artists that have inspired me for this theme is James Rosenquist and Robert Rauschenberg. With Rosenquist being heavily involved in pop art I would like to do research around that movement as it was around the years I will set this project on (1950-1961, having 61 being the nuclear war scare with the Cuba missile crisis.)

For this project I will collect inspiration from local art galleries and from science museums. I will collect photo evidence and draw observational drawings as my past projects have lacked primary sources and research. This project is for a wider audience as its aimed towards students and scholars of all areas (M.A.R.S = Maths, Art, Religion and Science.)  and with this the overall theme is open to anyone as it is centered around what if's and the left over/ the pieces we leave behind after a tragic event or even death.

The outcome of this project will be as I hope an instillation that will give the audience a bodily experience making them feel like they are set in the era with the eerie atmosphere that has been abandoned. with this in mind I aim to study installation artists and gather ideas. A key artists for this is Tracey Emin with her well known "My Bed" instillation (research will also be around the placement of the instillation for the final out come as space needs to be measured and made fitting for the work.)

My last project was a success as I got a pass with distinction qualities but the only areas I need to improve on which I will try and cover are self-directed planning that was detailed and coherent and organisation communication of ideas that was representative of my work and the online journal also my sketchbook.

I have big plans for this project as I wish to do an installation piece that would have the heavy amount of research ranging from patterns, tragedy within history and beyond.

(2.2) Involve more accurate details on planning such as size and scale when thinking about space which would be more effective with the planning of the installation.

(3.1) Plan out and draft an evaluation before writing a final one that will be handed in as the last one wasn't in depth and would have been better with more information about the journey and reflecting on that.

(3.2) begin collecting inspiration and sources outside of college to strengthen the project and bring in more ideas for the final piece.

(1.1) think of relation to myself not only to the audience so I can connect to the piece and the project together through me.
